Guidelines for Eligibility
All people nominated for a 2017 NAIDOC Award must:
Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and
Be accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
Nominee category guidelines:
-Apprentice or Trainee of the year must have held current position for min 3 months.
-Sportsperson of the Year must be signed to a specific code of sport within the region or state.
-Youth of the Year Award must aged 16-25 years and can be male or female.
-Artist of the Year Award includes visual, performing arts, dance & musicians.
-Elder of the Year Award (male & female) must be aged over 60 years to qualify
-Scholar of the Year Award can be male or female currently studying at tertiary level.
-Person of the Year must be an active member of community can be male or female
-Community Project of the year award is open to projects that have made a significant contribution to the Indigenous community, and has been delivered by a team within an organisation that has representation of at least one Indigenous person.
People who have previously won a NAIDOC award through the Bundaberg and District region are ineligible to be nominated in the same category.
Nominees received will be shortlisted and two from each category will be selected by a committee comprised from NAIDOC members and community Elders.
THE BEST WAY TO NOMINATE:
Give reasons for your nomination
Write about their particular position, role, job, and any community work they have done in the past year.
How long you have known that person, in what capacity,
The positive qualities of that person which makes them a suitable candidate for the award (including accomplishments and abilities).
Try to be as specific as possible.

Nominees will be published 1st June 2017 on our Facebook page, website, newsmail and community notice boards. Voting opens Monday 4th June 2017 and closes Friday 24th June 2017
